Open Research Data in Veterinary Medicine

With the swissuniversities-funded project "Open Research Data in Veterinary Medicine" (ORDVET), we want to raise awareness for responsible data handling within the Vetsuisse Faculty and inform all stakeholders about ORD practices and FAIR principles. In addition to these communication activities, we will also develop a concept for the introduction of a standardized classification of diseases in pathology repositories, comparable to the ICD-11 or SNOMED-CT systems in human medicine.
At the beginning of the project, the status quo regarding open research data at the Vetsuisse Faculty was investigated in an online survey in the summer of 2023. The main issues identified in the survey as needing the most urgent attention (i.e. the desire for uniform standards and infrastructures and concerns related to data protection laws) were addressed at the ORDVET information event in December 2023. Information event: Open Research Data in Veterinary Medicine

The digital information event on Open Research Data in Veterinary Medicine took place on the 8th December 2023. The basics of Open Research Data, FAIR principles, and effective research data management were explained. Experts presented current initiatives and guided the audience through data protection regulations. Moreover, the Vetsuisse Biobanking Information Management System (BIMS) was presented.
The event was held in English.
