Changing Place of Study within Switzerland

The arrangements for admission and the granting of places in the first year of study are governed by swissuniversities in consultation with the matriculation services of the universities involved.

Once you have successfully completed your first year of study you can switch places of study within Switzerland.
Assessments of academic achievement that you fail to pass at your university of origin must be completed at the new location.

Conditions for Switches within Switzerland

You must send a written application, including your reason for switching place of study, to the study (study planning) office at your future place of study. The following criteria will be taken into account in the order given:

  • Your parents, or the parent or partner supporting you, is moving into the catchment area of the other Vetsuisse site (provided the student lives with this person in the same household)
  • The student is caring for close relatives who live in the catchment area of the other Vetsuisse site
  • The student wants to switch for language reasons

Switch to start in Fall Semester: the dean's office at the target place of study must receive the application by January 31

The decision on whether it is possible to switch place of study within Switzerland will be communicated to applicants as soon as possible. Given the limited number of places in each academic year, however, you may be accepted or rejected at short notice.

The application deadlines at the new place of study apply.Application Deadlines.

Note: At the University of Bern you must officially register by 15 February.

2.  Students who want to resume study after a year off who have a guaranteed place from the study (study planning) office. If you want to have a place guaranteed you must apply to the study office in writing before your year off.
3.  Regular students at one Vetsuisse site who want to switch to the other Vetsuisse site (possible with effect from the start of the semester from the third semester onward).
4.  Candidates who no longer have to complete the full course of study because they have completed university studies in another medical profession and have had their application processed definitively by the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (BAG/FOPH).
5.  Each site has a waiting list of students to whom points 3 and 4 apply.
